“Today, it was a matter of identifying together elements that will enable elected women representatives of the people to understand their role in conflict prevention and to draw up a roadmap with concerted actions in favour of peace for the year 2021, in line with the strategic plan of the Network of Women Parliamentarians of Cameroon (REFPAC),” said the coordinator of the Platform, Sylvie Jacqueline Ndongmo.
“I would like to thank and congratulate WILPF Cameroon and its partners for their efforts aimed at enabling the greatest number of representatives of the institutions of the Republic to be educated on this instrument which can, if implemented, contribute to the consideration of the voice of women in the resolution of conflicts with as a direct consequence the improvement of the living conditions of the society in general, of women and girls in particular,” said Hon.
On the menu of the exchanges, resolution 1325 and related resolutions figured prominently and, more globally, the Women, Peace and Security agenda and its level of implementation in Cameroon. A dozen recommendations were made, notably for better collaboration between civil society and parliamentarians for more impact in actions aimed at restoring Cameroon’s status as a “haven of peace.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the United Nations system, the Ministry for the Promotion of Women and the Family, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education, among other key actors.
