Study: Publication of the report on the analysis of the gender dimension of conflicts in Cameroon

WILPF Cameroon and the Platform “Cameroonian Women for Peaceful Elections and Peace Education” made public on 29 October 2020 in Yaoundé, the report of the study on the gender dimension of conflicts in Cameroon (Gender Conflict Analysis in Cameroon).
This first official presentation of the report was made at the residence of the British High Commissioner to Cameroon, during a ceremony attended by representatives of key ministries working on human rights issues, international organisations and various personalities. A second presentation, followed by discussions on the means of implementing and following up on the recommendations of the report, is scheduled for 4 November 2020 in Douala with civil society actors and associations.
The analysis of the gender dimension of conflicts in Cameroon is a participatory research conducted by WILPF Cameroon and its partners between 2019 and March 2020, with a view to better understanding the current rifts that generate conflicts and instability in Cameroon. This analysis specifically reflects the lived experiences and grievances of women and girls from different components of Cameroonian society in their own words, and seeks to create a space to support women’s efforts in conflict prevention, mediation and participation in conflict resolution, despite the significant obstacles that persist for women’s effective participation in peace and security processes.
The analysis of the gender dimension in conflicts thus constitutes a reference base in the analysis of gender-based power dynamics in conflicts in Cameroon in order to develop measures and strategies by national and international actors for sustainable peace in the country.
