Youth education for a culture of peace in Dschang, Cameroon

Wednesday February 14, 2024 will be remembered as a day of learning and hope at École publique La Vallée and Écoles Maternelles d’Application Marche B1 and B2, in the Arrondissement of Dschang. It was much more than just a session; it was a celebration of peace, living together and solidarity.

295 young people and teachers came together to share a message of peace. Among them, 120 young primary school pupils, accompanied by 157 kindergarten children, opened their hearts and minds to this noble cause. Among the guides of this light, 15 female teachers and 3 male teachers set an inspiring example.

The most engaging moment of the day was undoubtedly the students’ collective creation of a scenario, a story that served as a catalyst for our journey towards peace. Their creativity gave life to visions of brotherhood and harmony, reminding us that peace is not just an ideal to be achieved, but a tangible reality we can build together.

We all left the meeting transformed, with a new commitment to peace and peaceful conflict resolution. We understood that it is essential to sow the seeds of peace from the earliest age, that peace education begins in kindergarten, where hearts are most open and minds most receptive.

Finally, a fervent wish was expressed: that WILPF Cameroon should return regularly to work together on this path of alliance that will support our common quest for peace, from generation to generation.

In every classroom, the words exchanged between students and teachers now shine on the walls, reminding everyone that peace begins in our hearts and spreads through our actions. Together, we are the guardians of peace, the architects of a better future for all.
