Meeting and Assembly in Bamenda for the Promotion of Peace

As part of our 10th anniversary celebrations, WILPF Cameroon has successfully engaged CSOs, administrators and the media in community dialogue and solidarity with stakeholders mobilizing men and boys for peacebuilding in the North West region of Bamenda.

* Participants:
The event was attended by 25 participants, including representatives of civil society organizations (CSOs), (MINAS), MINSEC, internally displaced persons (IDPs), traditional chiefs, media personnel and the Bamenda III sub-division DO representative.

* Objective and result:
The community and solidarity dialogue with stakeholders mobilizing men and boys for peacebuilding aimed to raise awareness, foster responsibility and promote the active involvement of men and boys in the promotion of peace, gender equality and peaceful conflict resolution in Cameroon. The meeting achieved its objectives, with numerous commitments and a roadmap for building alliances at grassroots level. Participants held brainstorming sessions on how traditions, customs, laws and policies, including beliefs and attitudes promoting negative masculinities, can be confronted. Other proposals were also put forward on how militarized masculinity strategies in conflict situations can be minimized through advocacy and awareness-raising.
