SPORTS WALK FOR PEACE

SPORTS WALK FOR PEACE

Together against gun violence 🕊

A prelude to the commemoration of the Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence, WILPF Cameroon together with the other member organizations of the Cameroon Action Network on Small Arms and Light Weapons(CANSA), commemorates these days of initiatives. For decades, the world has been plagued by multifaceted armed violence. To contribute to peace and reduce the escalation of armed violence, the international community has dedicated a week to raising awareness and engaging leaders in effective decision-making.

In their efforts to promote peace, CANSA member organizations have undertaken a series of initiatives to highlight the need to join forces to reduce armed violence in Cameroon and the sub-region.
The first activity was a sports walk organized on Saturday 1ᵉʳ June, which mobilized some 100 participants from various network organizations. This sports walk was not only a demonstration of solidarity, but also a vibrant call for a world without armed violence. All convinced of the importance of peace, joined the march to call for ” a ceasefire” and a return to peace in the regions in conflict in order to restore Cameroon to its former notoriety: Cameroon, Haven of Peace.
The walk took place on the route Rond-point Bastos – Parcours Vita – Mont-Fébé and back. Participants’ T-shirts bore messages of peace and non-violence.
This year’s theme, “Together against Armed Violence”, resonated through every step, reminding everyone of the importance of unity and collective action to eradicate armed conflict. Inspiring messages were delivered by community leaders and representatives of organizations present at the march, underlining the urgency of finding peaceful and lasting solutions.
Thanks to all participants and partners for their commitment and determination. Together, we can create a world in which peace and justice prevail over violence.
