Training of educators in the use of the peace education guide, Mokolo final session

Having begun on July 11, 2024 in Yaoundé, the training of educators in the use of the Peace Education Guide, designed by WILPF Cameroon in partnership with ONAPED, ended on August 27, 2024 in the conference room of the commune of Mokolo, in the Far North region. The training, which also made stops in Douala, Buéa and Bertoua, was designed to enhance participants’ skills in promoting the values of peace, social cohesion and multiculturalism among young Cameroonians.

The final workshop in Mokolo was marked by the exceptional presence of two emblematic WILPF figures: Foko Nathalie, National President, and Ndongmo Jacqueline Sylvie, International President. This workshop, the fifth and last in the series, familiarized participants with the structure and content of the Guide. They were equipped with innovative teaching and learning methods contained in this tool, as well as the strategies required for its implementation from the start of the school year on September 9, 2024.
The interest of this Guide, designed to complement the official curricula of certain disciplines at Minesec and Minedub, as well as the training curricula at Minjec, Minefop and Minproff centers, was not lost on participants, particularly in the current context of multifaceted crises in Cameroon. These crises, sources of violence and hate speech, are exacerbated by a tense pre-electoral climate in the run-up to 2025 and growing social insecurity.
From now on, more than 200 educators trained in the project’s five target communes will take over. Their mission will be to perpetuate this initiative and continue to promote the values of peace and social cohesion, beyond the electoral challenges of 2025.
