GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
The fight against genital mutilation

Every year, millions of girls suffer the irreparable. Female genital mutilation is not a tradition, but a violation of their rights, an injury to their bodies and to their future. They endure unbearable pain, haemorrhage and infection, and bear the physical and psychological scars of this violence for life.
But there is hope. In 30 years, the risk of a girl being mutilated has been divided by three. But this progress is threatened by crises: conflicts, climate catastrophes, pandemics… If we don’t act now, this violence could continue for generations.
Today, more than 230 million women and girls carry this suffering inside them. 230 million reasons to say STOP.
We have the power to break this cycle. Together, let’s make gender equality a reality and consign female genital mutilation to the dustbin of history. Every girl deserves a future where her body belongs to her, where her voice is heard, where her destiny is free.
