At the Conference, two books were presented as part of the project “ Fostering social cohesion among young people to prevent hate speech and political violence in Cameroon “funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund(UNDEF) and implemented by WILPF Cameroon. Underway since September 2023, this project involves data collection in five regions: South West (Buea), Littoral (Douala), Centre (Yaoundé), Far North (Mokolo) and East (Mandjou). The first guide, “Acteurs politiques et discours de haine: un guide d’éducation politique au respect de la diversité et à la promotion de la paix”, was created by CEFODEP, headed by Mr. Hilaire Kamga. Targeting political parties, it comprises 75 pages in French and 70 in English, summarizing contributions from political actors, civil society organizations, journalists and teachers involved in consultation workshops or responding to the project questionnaire. The second guide, presented at the press conference, aims to raise young people’s awareness of multiculturalism, social cohesion and peace. Created byONAPED, headed by its Executive Secretary Augustin Tchamande, this bilingual tool comprises 78 pages in French and 77 in English. It is organized into four modules: “ Cameroon, a mosaic of people and cultures “, ” Deconstructing hate speech and preventing violence “, ” Education for critical media consumption ” and “ Building sustainable peace “.
