The main aim of this 69\u1d49 United Nations civil society summit was to make proposals on future global governance. Work took place in plenary sessions, and in thematic groups. <\/div>
<\/div><\/div>
Statements were delivered by representatives of a number of organizations on a range of issues, including global governance, climate change, gender, peace and security, human rights, technology…<\/div>
<\/div><\/div>
These highlighted the global challenges identified in the above-mentioned areas. A number of recommendations were put forward in relation to the future pact: <\/div>
– The need to reform the United Nations Security Council;<\/div>
– Revision of the United Nations Charter;<\/div>
– The fight against systems of oppression, including racism;<\/div>
– Respect for gender and the fight against all forms of discrimination;<\/div>
– Respect for human rights ;<\/div>
– Intergenerational solidarity… which must form the basis of the pact of the future.<\/div><\/div>

The summit was inclusive, and served as a framework for interaction between the nations’ civil societies to propose innovative solutions for the Future Pact. A few highlights marked the summit: <\/div><\/div>
– Call for ceasefire against wars around the world<\/div>
– The civil society was honored by the presence of the Secretary General of the United Nations Ant\u00f3nio_Guterres<\/a><\/span> and Kenyan President William_Ruto<\/a><\/span>. He made the sad observation that civil society faces many challenges. Nevertheless, his hope lies with civil society in the face of the failure of global governance. For his part, the Kenyan President solemnly pledged his support for civil society. <\/div>
