Women, Peace and Security

Since January 2014, WILPF Cameroon’s Women, Peace and Security programme has been promoting the participation of women in peace processes. In addition, WILPF Cameroon conducts through this programme a regular monitoring of the action plan for the implementation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1325 and related resolutions through its four pillars.

The programme aims at promoting Inclusive Security by strengthening the capacities of women activists and broadening their efforts to promote human rights and peace so that they can act more effectively and demand that States and Institutions respect the commitments they have made, particularly in relation to the impact of armed conflicts and the circulation of arms on women and girls.

  • Advocate for gender analysis and women’s rights in conflict prevention, peacemaking processes, post-conflict transformation, policy and decision making;
  • Contribute to the holistic implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, including addressing structural obstacles and promoting the meaningful participation of women committed to peace and justice in political and social transformation processes at all levels;
  • Challenging gender power relations and working towards the transformation of masculinities.

Specifically, it aims to increase the influence and insight of organised women activists in the process of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and subsequent resolutions on women, peace and security – through extensive capacity building, empowerment and security mechanisms

  • Research on the level of ownership of UNSCR 1325 and advocacy for the adoption of a National Action Plan in Cameroon;
  • Monitoring of the action plan for the implementation of UNSCR 1325
  • Implementation of the Women Situation Room Cameroon for peace and peaceful election
